On June 21, 2024, PT INDONESIA EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT and UNIVERSITAS DR. SOETOMO officially signed a cooperation agreement in Surabaya. The signing ceremony was held grandly at Universitas Dr. Soetomo, aiming to promote the long-term education development plan between China and Indonesia through the establishment of an international college, and to further academic exchange and cooperation between higher education institutions in both countries.
The agreement covers a wide range of cooperative content, including the establishment of an international college, research cooperation, joint master’s and doctoral programs, academic seminars, and faculty and student exchanges. In the future, the two parties will initially carry out close cooperation in teaching and research, striving to achieve outstanding results in the field of higher education.
Established in 1981, Universitas Dr. Soetomo is a comprehensive university dedicated to providing high-quality education and research services. The university has 10 faculties, offering 27 study programs, covering a wide range of fields from humanities to natural sciences. Universitas Dr. Soetomo is known for its excellent education quality and innovative academic research, committed to cultivating outstanding talents with an international perspective and social responsibility.
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Siti Marwiyah, the President of Universitas Dr. Soetomo, stated, “We are very honored to have this important cooperation with the Chinese enterprise in Indonesia. This cooperation will not only promote the implementation of our education and research projects and joint master’s and doctoral programs but also greatly enhance the level of exchange and cooperation in the education field between the two regions. This cooperation will bring new opportunities for educational development in both regions, promote cultural exchanges, and push bilateral relations to a new height.”
Dr. Xue Ruiteng, Chairman of PT INDONESIA EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT, also highly recognized the cooperation, saying, “This cooperation not only opens a new path for Sino-Indonesian education cooperation but also provides a broader platform for the development of Chinese educational institutions in Indonesia. This will further promote the process of education internationalization, facilitate the mutual exchange and integration of higher education resources, and improve the overall education level.”
After the signing ceremony, representatives from both sides had an in-depth exchange and discussion on the specific implementation content of the cooperation. After the meeting, Prof. Dr. Siti Marwiyah and Dr. Xue Ruiteng jointly unveiled the newly established international college, visited the teaching facilities, and discussed the arrival of the first batch of students.
The implementation of this cooperation marks a new milestone in the deep cooperation of Chinese capital in Indonesia’s higher education field. It will continue to promote the collaborative development of industry, academia, and research, facilitate the internationalization of student training, and jointly achieve the development goal of the China-ASEAN higher education community.
